DISARMAMENT PARLEYS.
A CYNICAL OUTLOck.
AMERICAN ADMIRAL'S VIEW.
MUNITION MAKERS BENEFIT.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received August 16, 8.10 p.m.) A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. Aug. IS. The American delegates to the recent naval arms limitation conference at Geneva, Mr. Hugh Gibson and RearAdmiral Hilary Jones, returned .to New York to-day Admiral Jones said: "After all :s said and done it must be recognised that the United States is an island Empire just as is any other great centralised nation, and it must depend for its prosperity upon sea communications.
' I do not believe any tangible result will bo attained by these parleys about a limitation of arms. Directly tho pacifists start clamouring for disarmament to prevent war the manufacturers of arms immediately begin to receive largo orders and make a lot of money. "No Government will scrap good material in future, whether warships or guns. I know of one large arms factory which owes the commencement of its prosperity to the holding of tho first peaco conference at the Hague."
