DESTRUCTION BY FIRE.

RESIDENCE NEAR BUCKLAND. OCCUPANTS* HURRIED EXIT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUEEKOHE. Tuesday The residence of Mr. W. McNally, situated on the Buckland-Tuakau Road, was destroyed by fire at one o'clock this morning. When the outbreak was discovered tho flames had a strong hold and the occupants had barely time to escape. Practically nothing was saved. The dwelling was insured for £BOO and the contents for £275. Mr. McNally is a heavy loser. GUM STORE AT DARGAVILLE. HEAVY LOSS TO OWNERS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] " DARGAVILLE, Tuesday. The origin of the fire which destroyed Messrs. Marriner and Company's large gum storo on Sunday morning has not been ascertained. No one was in the building after 11 o'clock on Saturday morning, and when the rflarm was given at 2.30 on Sunday morning the building was burning fiercely. Tho building and plant were destroyed. The safo was opened to-day and the contents, including cash in notes and silver, were intact.

. Tho insurance on tho building was EIOCO in tho Guardian Office. There was also a floating policy on the stock of gum, of which there was not a largo amount in tho storo at the timo of the fire. There was no insurance on tho valuable machinery, which was destroyed. Tho owners' loss is very heavy, as the building was the largest of its kind in the North.

COTTAGE AT OHAKUNE.

OHAKUNE, Tuesday

Fire destroyed a four-roomed cottage on the Hangataua Road, Ohakune, at about 2.45 this morning. The fire started in tho kitchen and two rooms were burning before the occupants of the house, Mrs. Larsen and her daughter, noticed the flames. Both occupants escaped in their night attire. The fire brigade arrived promptly, but was unable to save the cottage, as the flames had such a strong hold. The insurance on the furniture was £l5O in the Guardian Assurance 01fic«.
