EXTENSIONS IN THE SUBURBS
The proposaJ to borrow .£600,000 for tramways and transport development will be submitted to Auckland city ratepayers to-day, the polling hours being from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tho returning officer, Mr. P. F. Notley, expects to announce the result of the polling within an hour of the closing of booths. The ratepayers' roll has recently been revised, and contains 22,363 names. Ratepayers and the wife or husband of a ratepayer are entitled to vote, provided they are enrolled. No person enrolled by virtue of a residential or occupiec's qualification is entitled to vote. Booths have been arranged at 30 points in the city area. A bare majority will suffice to carry • the proposal, which is being submitted as one* issue.
The works proposed under the scheme are as follows Point Chevalier extension, £92,050; Rcmuera extension, £24,800; Mount Eden extension, £44,860; Dominion Road extension, £39,250; Edendale extension, £14,700; Quay Street loop, £11,700; new railway station loop, £8000; Stanley Street loop, £2500; Onehunga duplication, £2650; Freeman s Bay extension, £9,600; Gaunt Street garage extension, £5300; overhauling garage, £11,200; running garage, £53,500; 50 new tram cars, £152,100; incidental charges in connection with raising of loan, £27,790; total, Details of polling places are given elsewhere.
