AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE

DAY OF ACTIVE BUSINESS.

There was a marked increase, of activity on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, and considerable business was recorded, particularly in banks and coal shares. A sale of War Loans, 1930, 4J, per cent., was effected at £97 15s, which was the price of the last sale made a month ago. There was further inquiry at £97 10s, sellers withdrawing. In New Zealand Breweries debentures sellers came down to 23s 9d, and buyers advanced to 23s 7d, without effecting business. In banks Commercial of Australia sold at 28s, a decline of 3d on the price earlier in the week. Business was done in Nationals of New Zealand at the recentlyprevailing rate of £6 15s. Unions of Australia were done at £ls, showing no change in recent values. In loan and agencies buyers of Loan and Mercantiles advanced to £92 without eliciting response. In coals there .were signs of advance in several lines. Hikurangis changed hands at 3s, arid the preference issue at 7s, as compared with 6s 6d last week. Pukemiros sold at 62s 6d, as compared with 61s at the beginning of this month, and 59s last month. Taupiris, preference, were still offered at 245, buyers 23s 6d. In gas sellers of Aucklands came down to 22s 6d at the last call, but buyers would not go beyond 22s 4d. In miscellaneous a further sharp advance was apparent in Auckland Amusement Parks, which sold at the last call at 12s 7d. The sale price last Saturday was lis 6d. The closing quotations were, sellers 13s 6d, buyers 12s 4d. In miuing buyers of Alburnias advanced to 3s 4d, sellers firm at 3s Bd. Kawaraus at Is had no buyers. New Waiotahis, Contributing, which were disposed ol at 7d and 8d on Monday, sold at 9d, with further demand at that figure. Business was done in Occidental Una Uniteds at Bd, and in Waihis at 19s 3d.
