CRICKET IN WELLINGTON.
GROWTH OF SENIOR CLUBS.
OPPOSITION TO REDUCTION.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION. J
WELLINGTON, Tuesday
Wellington has at present ten senior clubs playing cricket, a number which many good judges think is excessive, on the ground that here are not nearly LlO players really worthy of senior rank. Jfears ago, district clubs were tried, but objections gradually grew until they were abandoned, and under the present system, extra clubs were formed until they have become unwieldy in number. Various schemes have been proposed to meet the difficulty, to all of which more or less hostility has been shown. One of them, to reduce the list to six by amalgamation, came before the Cricket Association last night, but the opposition was' too strong, and it was thrown out.
