RUGBY MATCHES IN GERMANY. (Received August 16, 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Aug. 16. The New South Wales Rugby Union has given permission to the present touring team to play matches in Germany at the conclusion of the English tour. This sanction is subject to agreement by the International Board of Control. CRICKET IN AUSTRALIA. NEW SOUTH WALES SELECTORS. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Aug. 10. The annual election of selectors for the New South Wales Cricket Association le-sult-ed as follows:—R. L. Jones, A. R. Ratcliffe and E. L. Waddy. Warren and Bardsley wero defeated. LONG-DISTANCE RUNNING. SOUTH AFRICAN'S NEW RECORD. A. and N.Z. CAPETOWN, Aug. 15. The world's running record for 60 miles was broken at Bulawayo by Arthur Newton, who ran the distance in 7 hours 33m. 555. This is 40m. ss. better than the prior record. Newton now holds all the world's longdistance records for from 30 miles to 100 miles. BICYCLE SPRINT CHAMPION. AUSTRALIAN WINS IN AMERICA. (Received August 16, 8.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z.-Sun. NEW Aug. 16. Harris Horder, of Australia, became the bicycle sprint champion of America yesterday evening. Horder was placed third in the 22nd of 24 races which were held to decide the winner. He scored suffi cient points to make his victory a mathe matical certainty OLYMPIC GAMES AND AMATEURS. WARNING AGAINST PAYMENTS. (Received August 16, 7.45 p.m.) A. and N.Z.-Sun AMSTERDAM, Aug. 15. The International Amateur .AthleticFederation has passed a resolution regretting the decision of the International Olympic Committee, who decided that players who take part in the Games may receive an indemnity for their lost earn ings without forfeiting their amateur status
The Federation warns athletes in all parts of the world that anyone who has -eeeived payment for broken time in any sport will be debarred from participation in any of the events which are under the jurisdiction of the Federation. A message from London says the secretary of the Football Association, Mr. F J Wall, expresses it as his opinion that, under the altered circumstances of payment to athletes for broken time, the United Kinsrdom cannot be represented at the Amsterdam Olympic Games next vear in any branch of sport.
