THE ANNUAL TOURNAMENT.

RESULTS OF SECOND DAY.

AUCKLAND WINS MILNES BOWL. THIRTEEN POINTS TO THREE. The annual training college tournament between Auckland and Wellington was continued yesterday. In the morning hockey matches were played and Auckland won in both the ladies' and men s sections. In the afternoon Auckland easily accounted for the visitors at basketball, while the football match resulted in a draw. The results of yesterday's contests assured Auckland of possession of the Milnes Memorial Bowl, as the team has scored 13 points against Wellington's 3 points.. The tournament will be brought to a conclusion this morning with a swimming carnival in. the 'lepid Baths. A combined executive meeting will be held this afternoon, and the Wellington team will leave by the Main Trunk express this evening. Following are the points scored to date: "Wellington. Auckland. Tenais .... - Athletics .... '2 —- Boxing .... Football .... 1 1 Basketball ... Ladies hockey . . Men's hockey .. Cricket ~ "*otals 3 13 Following are the results of yesterday's games:— Ladles' Hockey. The ladies' hockey match was very evenly contested. There was a lack of combination on the part of both teams in the earlier stages of the game, and there was also a good deal of mishitting. The Auckland forwards asserted themselves toward *he end and gave their opponents a busy time on defence. Wellington was unfortunate in losing a goal through one of its players kicking the ball into the net. On the general run of the play Auckland had the better of it and deserved its win by two goals to one. Misses Jurd and Bilham scored for Auckland and Miss Wapp registered Wellington's goal. Men's Hockey. Following the bully Wellington set up an attack and Frazer netted a goal. Another Wellington attack was checked by North and then the Auckland forwards ..transferred play to the other end of the field. The -movement ended in Thompson scoring. After some fast up and down play Tizard (Auckland) narrowly missed with an angle shot. At half-time the scores were level—one goal each. Auckland commenced the second spell vigorously and a series of attacks ended in Wotherspoon goaling. Wellington rallied but it was not long before Auckland was back again, and 'Thompson found the net. Another Auckland goal from a corner was disallowed on account of sticks. However, just before time was called Tizard netted a goal, and the game ended: Auckland, 4; Wellington, 1.

The basketball match was played on the Normal School courts in the afternoon, Auckland proved to be the better team in all-round play, its passing being particularly good. Auckland won by 46 points to 23: ■! Rugby Football. The Rugby football match was played at the Domain in the afternoon and after a hard forward game ended in a draw, each team scoring sis points. At halftime neither team had scored. Shortly after the interval Broomfield drop-kicked a goal from a mark for Auckland. Then South scored a nice try 5 for Wellington wide out. The kick at goal failed. The Training College backs indulged in, a fine passing -bout and Minns finally raced over at the corner. The try was not converted After some hard forward exchanges, Brown touched "down for Wellington. The kick failed There was no further scoring, the game ending: Auckland, 6: Wellington. 6

The defence of both rearguards was very sound, especially that of the Auckland players. Meyer and Matheson stood out prominently in the Auckland back division, while Bell at fullback played an ex cellent game. South was the best Wellington back, hut was well marked by Matheson. Johnson and McNalighten led the Auckland forwards well and Barry was the pick of the visiting vanguard. Early in the game Foote. Auckland, retired injured and was replaced by Freer. Anderson was unable to play for Auckland owing to an injury received in Taranaki. SUCCESSFUL BALL. GAY SCENE AT SCOTS HALL. The most brilliant function of the Training College tournament was the Tournament Ball, at Scots Hall last evening. There wqs an attendance of between three and four hundred persons. Softly-shaded lights surrounded the hail, which was tastefully hung with multicoloured streamers suspended from a central festoon. During the evening bunches of balloons were released from the ceiling. Few introductions were necessary as the Wellington students have already made many firm friends during their short stay here. The supper arrangements were in the hands of a competent committee and delightful music was provided by the Astonians. /

Three beautiful bouquets were presented to Miss A. Donald, of Auckland, Miss M. Shelton, of Wellington, and Miss Loy, a member of the staff of the Wellington Training College. Among those present were Mr. H. G. Cousins, principal of the Auckland Training College, Mr. and Mrs. H. Hollinrake, Mr. D. M. Rae,vice-principal of the Auckland College, and Mrs. Rae, and Mr. E. Lomas, vice-principal of the Wellington Training College.
