GRAMOPHONE SOCIETY.
A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. The first annua! meeting of the Auckland Gramophone Society was held on Monday evening, the president, Mr. C. B. Plummer, presiding. The report stated there were 85 members, and the success of the first season gave every indication of a membership of 200 at the end of the second season. Considering the success of lectures by experts in recent programmes, the report recommended to the incoming committee that technical or instructional evenings should occasionally be held. A credit balance of £5 2s 9d was shown.
The following officers were elected: — President, Mr Karl Atkinson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. B. A. Heathen; committee, Messrs. C. B. Plummer, R. Hipkins, A. W. Strong, A. H. Keesing, A. I). Cunningham, A. Fairburn and L. Shaldrick.
The monthly recital was held after the meeting. Mr. Atkinson told the story of the Savoy opera " Ruddigore." shortly to be presented in Auckland, illustrating his address with seven records. Mr. C. B. Plummer provided ten of the most recent records, including a remarkable record of Mendelssohn's Andante and Finale from the Concerto in E Minor, played by Kreisler and the Berlin State Opera House Orchestra.
