WIRELESS LICENCES.
SEVERAL FINES IMPOSED. QUESTION OF RECEIPT DATE. The mystery of a receipt for a wiveless licence feo concerning which Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., last week remarked: " Either this receipt is forged, or else the Post Office is issuing improper receipts," was cleared up in the Police Court yesterday. The reecipt was produced in connection with a charge against A. W. Thomas (Mr. Thomas), of failing to renew a wireless licence. The receipt bore the date June 1, although evidence disclosed that the licence was issued on June 21. The magistrate adjourned the case to enable inquiries to be made regarding the reecipt. When the case was resumed yesterday a Post Office clerk gave evidence that a date-stamping machine had failed to print the figure " 2 " of the date in this instance. The correct date appeared on the duplicate. Mr. Thomas contended the set had been dismantled, as it had been taken out of its case and hung on the wall, while the batteries and crystal were missing _and the aerial had been lowered until it rested on some trees.
The magistrate said the set must he completely taken to pieces before it could be said to be dismantled and imposed a fine of £2. On similar charges N. W. Hardley, H. L. Thompson and W. H. D. Gardner were fined £1 each.
