HOSPITAL HELPERS.

MEETING OF AUXILIARY. MANY USEFUL ACTIVITIES. A successful, meeting of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary wns held at the Costley block yesterday morning, when over 50 ladies were present. The first sewing meeting was Opened with Mrs.- Rapson as convener. The Mayoress, Mrs. Campbell, brought a sample collecting box to be placed for occasional contributions in warehouses, stores and banks, and it was approved. The Mayoress, of Avondale, Mrs. Tiarks, reported that she had formed; a committee of eight, and an additional 20 helpers were providing motor-drives for children once a week. Miss Turner, the matron, and Dr. Maguire. the medical superintendent, visited the meeting. Dr. Maguire, in thanking the ladies for their kindly interest in hospital affairs, suggested that Ilonday would be a good day ; for the mfflor excursions. ■ Dr. Buckley Turkington, convener of , the Sunshine Committee, reported that she had, with, the . help of Mrs. A. M. Ferguson. secured about 20 girls to undertake to play with the children in the Princess Mary Hospital every afternoon except Wednesdays and Sundays, which are visiting days. She was also forming a committee of girls to provide cigarettes and sweets for the patients on alternate Sunday afternoons. The other day is provided for in the same way by the waterside workers. . Mrs, T. W. Leys, convener of the Distribution Committee, distributed flannel shirts, little dressing jackets and flannel undervests to lie made by the ladies at home. The following executive committee was formed -.—Patron, Mrs. Campbell; president, Mrs. Kidd: secretary, Mrs. Maguire; treasurers, Mrs. Kirker and Dr. Turkington, Mesdames Marler, David • Natha", Prendergast and Donaldson (Mayoress of Newmarket). Mrs. Marler reported that she had taken up her work as organiser in charge of taking patients to their homes from hospital when well enough to leave. The depot, was visited by the. executive. and it is hoped to have it opened at an early date for the convenience of anyone desiring to make gifts to the hospital in kind or clothing.
