RHODES SCHOLARSHIP.

AWARDS FOR NEXT YEAR. CANTERBURY NOMINATIONS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. The Professorial Board of Canterbury University College has made tho following nominations, in order of preference, for the New Zealand Rhodes Scholarship for 1928:—Messrs, J. B. Nanson, R. G. Simmers, and W. Bryden. Mr. Nanson, who is 21 years of age, received his early education at the Geraldine primary and district high schools. For three years he attended the Christchurch Boys' High School, where, besides being a monitor and a member of the first fifteen, he was tho dux of the school. In 1923 he gained a university entrancescholarship, being third on the list foi New Zealand. In 1925 he passed the first soction of his B.A. degree. Ho has been awarded, during his university career, a Robert Bell Scholarship grant, and also a John Connal Scholarship (1926). Apart from his studies Mr. Nanson has taken a verv prominent part in the life of his college. He is now secretary of the Can terbury branch of the International Students' Association, treasurer of the drama and dialectic societies, and editor of the college house magazine. He has actively engaged in tennis and football. Mr. * Simmers received his secondary education at the Timaru Boys' High School, where he was head prefect, captain of the first fifteen, captain of the first Soccer team, and school boxing champion. Mr. Simmers, who is president of tho Students' Association at the college and a member of the college fifteen, holds a B.Sc. degree. Mr. Bryden. who holds tho B.A. degree, is now vice-president of the Students' Association at the college and a prominent forward in the college fifteen. He was educated at the Rangiora District High School.
