THE BORER.
reference to the article in Thursday's Herald on " Wealth from Waste," wherein it is stated that " furfural " has the peculiar property of penetrating wood and can be used as a germicidal and fungicidal dressing, it lias struck me that on this account it would perhaps prove an excellent remedy for the white pine borer in New Zealand, which has proved such a curse to property holders. Now that furfural is obtained cheaply in large bulk I offer the suggestion that our science department of the university test the matter. Is it obtainable in New Zealand? Borer.
