FRENCH MOTOR THEFTS.
A DRASTIC REGULATION.
KEEPING GARAGE REGISTERS.
The French Minister of Justice haa framed a decree which, if strictly applied, will, it is hoped, practically put an end to the thefts of motor-cars which have recently become more numerous than ever. It has been found impossible to prevent thieves from making o2 with cars, for specialists in this branch of crime are fully acquainted with and prepared for all the little tricks employed by prudent owners. What is sought now is to prevent such thieves from disposing of the stolen cars, and to this end the Minister proposes to enforce the keeping of registers recording the movements of all cars in and put of garages, much as hotel proprietors are compelled to note the arrivals and departures of their guests. Like the hotel registers, these garage books will be regularly inspected by the police, who will thus be able to trace the movements -of any particular car.
