SUGAR MILL STRIKERS.
VIOLENCE IN QUEENSLAND.
FARMERS' FIGHTING SPIRIT.
A. fold N.Z. BRISBANE, July 25. Tho members of the Innisfail Trades and Labour Council hare declared black tho South Johnstone sugar mill and the farmers of the district. They have also threatened to cut off all food supplies. The farmers held a meeting and decided to accept this challenge and keep the mill working to the limit of their resources. Serious developments are expected and additional police are being drafted to South Johnstone. Another disgraceful scene occurred near the mill. A mob of strikers stopped a sugar-cane train and began to pull the cane from the trucks. They overturned •other trucks. The police arrived, and under their escort a locomotive drawing six trucks reached tho mill safely. The remaining 19 trucks which had been completely emptied were placed on the line again by tho farmers and taken to the mill.
DISAFFECTED ENGINEERS.
PIECEWORK STRIKE EXTENDED.
(Received July 25, 7.55 p.m.) a! and N.Z. SYDNEY. 'July 25. The engineers' piecework strike is extending. The engineering staffs of Automatic Totalisators, Limited, and of Tulloch's Phoenix Ironworks are the latest to cease work as a protest against the introduction of the daily hiring system.
