BROADCASTING SERVICE.

CHURCH RELAY FAILURE.

A number of correspondents have written complaining of the failure of the Auckland broadcasting station to successfully relay the service from St. Matthew's Church on Sunday evening. One of them states all this was lost through a characteristic piece of carelessness, for which the Broadcasting Company was becoming noted. "To be informed at the last minute that the land line was not working indicates clearly that the company does not consider that its promises to those who pay for efficient service are of sufficient importance to warrant a series of tests beforehand to see that things are working properly," he adds. The manager of the Broadcasting Company stated the fault lay exclusively with the relay line between the station and St. Matthew's Church.. There was nothing wrong at the station whatsoever. Every effort was made to repair the line, but this could not be done until the service was nearly over. The cause of the breakdown was not known, but was probably due to the stormy weather. The manager added that in view of the sermon by Archbishop Averill no effort was spared in an endeavour to make the relay successful. It was further pointed out that in the past the Auckland station had met with great success in relaying church services and other functions.
