A FIVE-DAY WEEK.

THE LATEST EXTENSION.

PUBLIC SERVICE CONCESSION

[from our own correspondent.] SYDNEY, July 15. Probably with a weather eye on the elections, the Now South Wales Government has just decided to adopt a five-day week for the Public Service, thus following the precedent set by the Sydney City Council. Although the suggestion for the abolition of Saturday work really emanated from the Civil Servants' Association, obviously no better time for granting it could have been found than the present. So, apparently, the Cabinet thought, for, on the recommendation of the Premier, Mr. J. T. Lang, Ministers agreed to it. This means that the Cabinet has administered to itself a pat on the back from 73 per cent, of the public servants of the State, for that was the percentage which some time ago voted in favour of the proposal when it was put before them.
