DEVONPORT BEATS ATHLETIC.

THIRTY-TWO POINTS TO EIGHT.

Tho Auckland Rugby League postponed its usual club fixtures on Saturday on account of the fourth test match between Canada and New Zealand, and only one senior grade match was played. This took place at Devonport, the local thirteen defeating Athletio by 32 points to 8. Devonport assumed the offensive early in the game. Beattie made a great run to half-way, where Webb secured, beat the opposition, and scored a good try, which A. Scott converted. Athletic pressed hard for some minutes and Avery led his forwards in a sweeping offensive, which almost gained a try. However. Cleaver defended solidly and he started the Devonport backs going for Seager to score a splendid try. A. Scott converted.

Throwing the ball about in great stylo Devonport raced all over the opposition, and after R. Scott had mado a good run. Seagar tricked tho defence and scored a try near the posts. The kick missed. Devonport was again too speedy, and oa this occasion Webb was the scorer, J. Laing adding the goal-points. Just before the spell ended tho Athletic forwards rushed play to Devonport's territory, whero B. Laing failed to clear, and Christmas bcored. Longvillo converting. The half-time scores were: Devonport. 18; Athletic, 5. Devonport continued to attack and the passing and clever running ga\e Athletic an anxious time. Rule and A. Scott broke away and Beattie snapped up tho ball to race over for a try. Cleaver failed to convert. Then Webb made a brilliant opening and passed to L. Scott, who raced over for an easy try, and a few minutes later Beattie also scored. Playing with great dash Devonport's forwards rushed play downfield, and Scagar scored his third try, which B. Laing converted. Just before the match ended Avery scored for Athletic, and tho final result was:—Devonport, 32; Athletic, 8.

OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA, Saturday. The Ponsonby League football team defeated liotorua by 22 points to 15 to-day. The game was strenuous. Ponsonby won by superior combination and a more intimate knowledge of the finer points of the game. The Rotorua players have greatly improved since meeting Parnell two weeks afeo. They bad Ponsonby on the defence nearly all the later part of the game and had hard luck m not scoring- on several occasions.
