STRONG INDICTMENT.
AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINES. DEGRADATION OF WOMEN. LONDON, July 1. " I am appalled at the misery, want and degradation of the aboriginal women of Australia, who are the prey of white Europeans and are regarded as fair game," declared Miss Tennent Cook, the South Australian delegate at the conference of the British Commonwealth League. " The aborignes are rapidly dying out, mainly from venereal disease. Irrespective of their intelligence, nborignes should be placed where they will receive the benefits, and not the defects, of civilisation. I strongly favour the establishment of a model aboriginal state, governed according to its own laws and customs, but with cannibalism and cruel rites prohibited."
