WAIKATO DIOCESAN SYNOD

WELCOME TO THE BISHOP.

SALES OF LAND AUTHORISED.

The first Waikato Synod continued its session at Hamilton to-day, Bishop Cherrington presiding. A social in honour of the clergy attending the synod was given in Alexandra Hail last evening. The gathering also marked the official church welcome to the bishop, which had been deferred from last December.

Mr. 0. B. Farrer, tho people's church warden, said that the people had admired the way in which the bishop had thrown himself into the work awaiting him. Within feix months he had traversed the whole of the diocese, appointed a complete staff for tho diocesan office, created a cathedral chapter and carried out other duties. Mr. Farrer extended a hearty welcome to the bishop and the visiting synodsmen.

In thanking the people the bishop referred to the good work which had been accomplished in Hamilton by church adherents in both St. Peter's and St. George's parishes. A conference of laymen was held in the synod hall this morning. At the session of the synod this afternoon Mr. Lvsons presented the report and recommendations of the sales of land committee. The Waikato Diocesan Trust Board was granted authority to sell, subject to reserves, the following:—A seclion of -J-acre of the vicarage grounds, Bryce Street. Cambridge, the proceeds to be applied to building a motor garage and the balance to be paid to the parish hall building fund; part of allotment 65, Hamilton West, the proceeds of the sale to 'be paid to the capital funds of the diocese; section 5, block 3. Rangaroa, Taumarunui, the proceeds to be applied to the permanent reduction of the overdraft on the Taumarunui parish halV building account.

The synod then went into committee to consider the Parish Statute Bill.
