PRISONER AND SHERIFF. OTTAWA. June 20. In a desperate attempt to prevent being taken to prison for lashes and the balance of a two-year sentence for assaulting a girl, William Langley. of Frederickton, New Brunswick, held up the sheriff with a gun until the sheriff's wife shouted that there were no cartridges in it. Langley was then captured.
