DISEASES OF POTATOES.
PREVENTING INTRODUCTION. REGULATIONS TO BE IMPOSED. — § [BY TEI.EGRAPH. —SPECIAL REPORTED.] WELLINGTON, Thursday. Regulations designed to prevent the introduction of potato diseases ure- about to be gazetted. The Minister of Agriculture, Hon. O. J. Hawken, said in th© House to-day that the regulations would provide that all imported potatoes other than seed potatoes would have to be certified by a responsible officer in the country of shipment that "they were free of disease, that they had been grown on land that was also freo of disease and that they had been packed in clean, new sacks. The regulations would be on the same lines as similar regulations in Australia. Mr. T. D. Burnett (Temuka) : Are they as drastic as the Australian regulations? The Minister: Very much the same.
