A PROVERB.
Sir, —In reply to " Tellme,**' 1 ,can tell him that the quotation, " He temper? the wind to the shorn lamb," is to be found in a slightly different form in the writings of John Wilson (Christophei North), 1785-1854. It occurs in " The Lights and Shadows of Scottish Life.'-' The minister of the parish is battling his way through a snow-storm to tht death-bed of his elder, and speaking of the child at his side, says, " Thej had to send his grandson for me, meri child as he is. . . . but lovo make: tho young heart bold, and there is Ont that tempers the wind to the shorn lamb.'' This may be a quotation from an earlic> source, but is not marked as such. Scotsman.
