LEAGUE FOOTBALL PLAYERS. OFFERS FROM ENGLISH CLUBS. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, June 28. At a meeting of the New South Wales Rugby League a communication was received from the New Zealand League stating that the Dominion is willing to support New South Wales and Queensland so that the English clubs shall be defeated in their efforts to secure players from Australia and New Zealand. The secretary of the Queensland League, Mr. Sunderland, said that since the arrival of the Queensland team in Sydney representatives of English clubs had negotiated with players. They had offered them inducements to sign agree ments with clubs in Britain. One player had named £BOO as his fee. He considered that a prohibitive figure, but it was accepted. The player had, however, decided to remain in Australia. Mr Sunderland said he felt the Australian clubs must offer something of an international nature to players. He suggested that a team should be sent to England every four years. The matter was referred to the Board of Control.
