THE DINGWALL BEQUEST.
APPOINTMENT OF TRUSTEES. THE PRESBYTERY'S DECISION. Under the will of the late Mr. D. M. Dingwall, who left an estate estimated to be worth about £250,000 for the foundation of an orphanage, the trustees include the ministers of St. David's, St. Luke's, St. Andrew's and St. James' Presbyterian Churches, and one layman representative of each of these congregations. The appointment of these trustees is in the hands of the Auckland Presbytery, which yesterday decided to appoint Messrs. John Dempsev (Si. Luke's), Robert Geddis (St. David's), R. Cuthbertson (St- James'), and Dr. McDougall (St. Andrew's). The ministers concerned have all signified their acceptance of the trusteeship. Mr. S. J. Harbutt, convener of the Presbytery's Orphanage Committee, in moving the appointment of the lay trustees, said that this brought before the Presbytery one of the biggest questions it had had to face. The new orphanage would have a great effect on the work of the orphanages in the Auckland district, and it opened up important questions which struck at the foundations of the present orphanage movement. The Presbytery passed a resolution expressing its great appreciation of Mr. Dingwall's munificent bequest which would place its orphanage work on a firm foundation. The donor would be remembered as a man "who had made it possible to give many a helpless child an opportunity in the world. The Presbytery appointed a representative deputation to wait on the Dingwall estate trustees and consult with them with a view to ensuring that the new orphanage work and the existing worK are dev: ,ped in harmony.
