ALLEGATION OF SLANDER.
AN ACTION WITHDRAWN. DEFENDANT SEEKS JUDGMENT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON, Tuesday. The action commenced by Donald David Wilson, veterinary surgeon, Hamilton (Mr. N. S. Johnson), against Montague Mailing, bank manager, Hamilton (Mr. A. L Tompkins), in which plaintiff claimed £6OO from defendant for alleged slander, was withdrawn by plaintiff when the case was called in the Hamilton Supreme Court this morning. Mr. Tompkins said defendant had always denied having made tlie statements ■which plaintiff alleged he had made, and ho still denied having made thern. Counsel said he thought judgment should be entered for defendant with costs. Mr. Johnson: I do not oppose the pavment of costs. Mr. 1 'ompkins: I do not think the case should bo withdrawn, but that judgment should be entered for defendant. Mr. Justice Herdman gave judgment for defendant by consent, with costs £23 12s, and witnesses' expenses to be settled by the Registrar
