ELECTORAL CHANGES.
EFFECT UPON LICENSING.
NO HOTELS IN PARNELL AREA. ELLERSLIE BOOTH PERMITS. An interesting point lias been raised through the proposed alteration in the electoral boundaries of the Auckland metropolitan area, one effect of which is to leave the Parnell electorate without any hotels within its borders. The Ellerslie racecourse, thongfc, is still included, and provision is made for the licensing of liquor booths there during race meetings. An authority on the Licensing Act stated yesterday that it made clear provision for such a circumstance. The existing Parnell Licensing Committee would, continue t6 function until the boundaries adjustment came into effect at the next general election, probably in December, 1928. In June of that year the committee would, as usual, grant licences to the hotels and course booths, covering the ensuing 12 months, ending in June, 1929. By that time there would be no hotels within the Parnell electorate, and an election would be held for the setting up of a conditional licensing committee whose only function would be to exercise jurisdiction over the Ellerslie racecourse booths.
