NO LEADING BOWLERS.
DISAPPOINTMENT AT ABSENCE BATSMEN SEEK EXPERIENCE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WELLINGTON. Friday. Keen disappointment at the absence of leading English bowlers from the county teams which have met the New Zealand cricketers on the present tour is oxpressed by Mr. W. S. Brice, cne of the selectors of the New Zealand team. "One of the main objects of the tour was that our batsmen should gain experience against the best,"- he said. "What is the use of sending our players over there if they are not going to play against the best bowlers ? lam very disappointed that our team has not met such bowlers as Tate and Root, and 1 should say the team itself is ' disappointed." Mr. Brice added that he had written to the chairman of the New Zealand Crickot Council urging that some action should be taken with a view to making sure that the New Zealand cricketers will have opportunities of gaining experience against leading bowlers during the remainder of the tour. It seemed to him there would be a certain loss of interest in the tour if the counties continued to drop their leading players from the teams opposing the New Zealanders. It would also probably have the effect of discounting the real merit of the performances of the New Zealand batsmen. "We want the counties to play their best bowlers," he said. "It is of no uso playing the weaker men, as there are plenty of that class in New Zealand."
