HOWICK CEMETERY.
OPENING NEW GATES. - -r • The new gates at the Howick Cemetery will be officially opened by Mr. E. 'D. McLennan, M.P. for Franklin, this afternoon. The land which forms the cemetery, comprising eight acres, was given by the Government to the Howick township 80 years ago next November, but until four years ago there was only one burial there. This took place in 1863. The cemetery is now under the control of the Howick Town Bbard. The new gates, which are built of rock faced concrete blocks, have been erected in the form of a semi-circle. There is a low wall on each side, with massive pil lars of concrete and ornamental caps. The money for the work has been raised by a series of children's concerts given in several towns under the direction of Mrs. Walter Amiss.
