VALUE OF TOP-DRESSING.
n Sir, —In tho Herald of the 24th ait., t vou have an article headed, "Increased Production." 1 quite agree with you that top-dressing will work wonders, but anyone with experience knows that your argument of what the man ia question could do with the 15 tons of manure is open to question. If that same farm has been fairly well top* dressed previously he would not get near the 60 to 100 per cent, increase, though he probably would if the farm has oeen neglected. You speak of tho extra 20 cows that could be carried, returning the low average of £ls per head. That works out at 3001b. of butter-fat at Is per lb. How many herds are producing that amount even after testing and culling for years? Also, where can you buy cows of this class for £lO per head ? It is very easy to make a fortune on paper with figures, but when vou butt into nature and the multitude of parasites that exist it is a very different matter. Takahue. W. C. Kirtlaj?.
