A DEAL IN LAND.
MARRIED HAN BANKRUPT. The bankruptcy of Edward Meikle, of Mount Albert, was investigated at a meeting of his creditors yesterday, the official assignee, Mr. G. N. Morris, presiding. The bankrupt's filed statement showed unsecured liabilities amounting to £135, and secured debts totalling £I3OO, on property at Waitakere, valued at £I7OO. His only material asset was the mortgaged property, but it was stated that in this there was no real equity. Bankrupt said he sold the property three years ago for £I7OO, but the purchasers made default, and although he had now no real interest in the land, he was still liable under the personal coven- ?. nt . 1 . 1 ) mortgage deed. He believed ii ti mortgagee would take steDS to pell the property, more than the amount of his hen would be realised.
