New Zealand- won the match for the Kirk-Windeyer Cup, by defeating the Victorian tcaoi in both the foursomes matches, and winning two of the four singles. r In the foursomes, A. D. S. Duncan and T H. Horton, New Zealand, defeated Ivo Whitton and Russell, Victoria, 4 up. and S. K. Ross and L. Qtiijn defeated Headlam and E. G. Schlapp, 3 up. In the singles, A. D. S. Duncan defeated Ivo Whitton, 1 up; T. H. Horton lost to Russell, 1 down; Dr. K Ross lost to Headlam, 1 down at the 20th hole; R Quin defeated E. G. Schlapp, 1 up. The match was played at the Rose Bay links in perfect weather. All the games were well contested, and the standard of golf was very high. Duncan Defeats Open Champion. A feature of the day was the victory of A. D. S. Duncan over Ivo Whitton, the open champion of Australia. In the foursome match between T. H. Horton and A. D. S. Duncan and Ivo Whitton'and Russell, the Victorians won tho first hole, but New Zealand won the next two, through two nice puts by Horton. The next holes were halved, but Duncan sank a great putt on the seventh green for a win. The eighth was halved, but a weak second by Duncan allowed the Victorians to reduce tho lead *at the ninth. Weak putting by their opponents gave the New Zealanders the 10th hole. Tho 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th holes were all halved. Whitton and Russell won the 15th, but lost the sixteenth. The 17th hold was halved, but New Zealand won the 18th, finishing 4 up. Against Headlam and Schlapp, Quin and Ross lost the first hole and won the second. They lost the third,,and the fifth but squared the game at the seventh. New Zealand took the lead at the ninth hole, where Quin sank a great putt. Quin again holed out a great putt at the 11th hole and put New Zealand two up. i The 12th hole was halved, but weak putting by the Victorians allowed the New Zealanders to increase their lead. The remaining five holes were halved in par .golf. Keen Play in the SSingles. In tho singles, Duncan won the first hole against Whitton, and after the next two had been halved, Whitton squared the. match at the fourth. Duncan then won the fifth, seventh and i eighth, and turned for home, 3 up. j Duncan became 5 up by winning the i 11th and 12th holes, but Whitton then ! won the next three holes. Duncan halved the next two, but lost the last hole, finishing 1 up. Horton, playing Russell, found a bunker with his drive at the. first hole, which he lost. He mulled his iron shot at the second, and seemed to lose confidence for a while, and was 3 down at the. turn. However, Horton played well coming home, and was only 1 down at the 18th. Ross and Headlam had a great struggle, Headlam was 2 up at the fifth hole, but I Ross then won the sixth, seventh and eighth, only to lose the ninth. Headlam was 1 up at the 12th, but Ross squared the match again at tho 14th hole. The match was square at the 18th, but | the Victorian prevailed at the 20th hole. Brilliant Finish by Quin. | Tho aiatch between Qui.n and Schlapp j provided the finest golf. Tho \ ictorian I won the first, but Quin became one up by winning the fifth and sixth holes. Schlapp, however, squared tho game at the seventh. The eighth and ninth were halved. Quin won the 10th, but lost the 12th and 14th. Ho then made one of, his characteristic finishes, winning the 15th and 16th holes and halving tho hist two for a win, which gave New Zealand the cup.
