BOOKS FOR LIBRARY.
VALUABLE BEQUESTS MADE. LATE MR. AND MRS. F. SHAW. Two valuable gifts of books from the estates of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred. Shaw have been made to the Auckland Public Library. The books from Mr. Shaw's estate number 625, and comprise many rare volumes, including a book printed in the 15th century. The subjects dealt with in the books are of a varied character, but particularly note-' worthy is a group dealing with English literature, which includes many interesting first editions. The collection is particularly strong in books dealing with historical, topographical and artistic subjects. Books presented to the library from Mr. Shaw's collection now total over 1600, and in size his benefactions rank next in order to the Sir George Grey collection and the collection presented by Mr. Henry Shaw, a brother of Mr. F. Shaw. The books presented from the estate of Mrs. Shaw number over 50. The City Council at its meeting last evening expressed its thanks for the gifts.
