THE ENSEMBLE FASHION.
Now and again there is a breakaway from the fashion of the ensemble, the dress, coat and hat which go together, but very soon the leaders of fashion draw their followers back to i* again. That is what has happened this season, says our Paris correspondent. It was said that it would be more fashionable to have a dress of one colour and a coat of another, and that there was to be no more slavish following of the all-of-ono-piec® sort of dress and coat. True, it is now permissible to wear a grey dress and a green coat trimmed with grey, or a green dress and a grey coat, but there must be that about them which shows that they were made for each other. Then there is the hat. Never has the hat been more subject to the dress with which it goes than this season. A woman with a slender purs® may well be alarmed at such a piece of news if she follows fashion at all. To every dress a coat, and to every dress and coat a hat! Jhirsk what it means. One of two things: Extravagance or strict economy. t , Either the wardrobe must he fill'*! with clothes of one colour scheme, carefully thought out not to look monotonous, of it must represent a very big dress allowance. There _is yet another possibility: It may look lik« a patchwork quilt and be a complete fa.! are. The two fashionable colours are bine and green. To choose either, but cot both, leaves a wide margin for varying the scheme of colours. Navy bio* tailor-mades may have several blows and waistcoats of different colours to ?'> with them. They take equally well to white, yellow, cherry colour and pinkIn afternoon dresse*. plain, printed, or trimmed, there are blues without end which may be mixed or put with white, grey, and rose colour. For evening there is roval blue, turquoiw blue, peacock blue, forget-me-not blue, and with each may be put fold, «!*«*, *nd a mixture of soft colours in a brocade.
