AUSTRALIAN SILVER BAND.
A TOUR OF AMERICA. The Australian Silver Band, which assembled in Auckland yesterday, left for a tour of Canada and the United States by the Aorangi last evening. Two years ago the band won the world's championship contest at the Crystal PalaffC, London, and last year it was placed fourth. The band, which is under the direction of Mr. Albert H. Bade, is under engagement to Western Fairs, Ltd., to piay in all the principal towns of Canada and the United States The tour finishes with a radio contract in Ontario. At the conclusion of the American trip the band will probably leave for England, where it will compete at the Crystal Palace contest in November. This will be followed by a tour o? England, Africa and the Continent. Among the members of the band, who are well known in the Dominion, are A. Stender, A. Williams. H. Collins. T. Bollen. C. Franz, and F. Ellis. Williams won the tenor-horn solo at. the last contest held in Auckland, when he was a member of the snreessfol Malvern Trarrswavs Bam z . L. Halle, a member of the ex-cbampicn combination of the Dominion, the Wanganni Garrison Band, joined the partT yesterday, under a sjwwHl engagement.
