QUESTION OF RITUAL.
FIRST CHURCH AT DUNEDIN. PRESBYTERY REJECTS PROTEST. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN. Tuesday. A protest* was entered at a meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery to-day by the Rev. W. Trotter against the celebration of the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper at the First Church on Good Friday. Mr. Trotter wrote dissociating himself from the celebration, and requested that his protest should be placed on the agenda. Dr. Merrington, minister of the First Church, opposed the reception of the letter, and urged that no minute of the reception of a letter protesting against the sacrament carried out in accordance with the Reformed Church and the whole Church of Christ should appear on the books. The meeting then went into committee. After debating the question for an hour and a-half it was reported that presbytery had decided not to endorse the protest.
