The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated April 30,' from the High Commissioner for ; New Zealand, London:— Butter.—The New Zealand and Australian market, is steady. Others are quiet. Official quotations are:— New Zealand.—Finest salted: April 30, 151s to 154s per cwt.;. April 23, 152s to 1545. Unsalted: April 30, 164s to 1665; April 23, 164s to 1665. Other qualities: April Australian.—Salted: April 30, 150s to 152s per cwt.; April 23, 151s to 1545; Unsalted: April 30, 158s to 1625; April 23, 158s to 1625. Other qualities: April 30, 140s to 1545. Argentine. —Unsalted: April 30, 152s to 156s per cwt.,; April 23, 154s to 158s. Other qualities: April 30, 144s to 150s. Danish.—April 30, 164s to 166s per cwt.; April 23, 172s to 1765. Siberian.—April 30, 150s per cwt.; April 14, 152s to 1545. Cheese.—The market is steady. Official quotations are:— English.—Finest farmers': Prices are purely nominal? and stocks are almost exhausted. Canadian.—Finest coloured: April 30, 90s to 94s per cwt.; April 23, 90s to 945. White: April 30, 92s to 945; April 23, 92s to 945. Other qualities: April 30, 86s to 88s. • ■ 7 New Zealand.—Coloured: April 30, 76s to 77s per cwt.; April 23, 76s to 775. White: April 30, 75s to 765; April 23, 76s to 775. Other qualities: April 30, 74s to 755. Australian.—Coloured: April 30, 73s to 755. : Tallow.—The market is quiet but steady. Present quotations . are:—Mutton: Fine, 36s 9d to 37s per cwt.; fair to good, 35s 9d to 36s 3d; dark to dull, 34s to 355. Beef: Sweet and Or mixed, 37s 6d to 40s; fair to good, 36s to 37s 6d; dark to dull, 33s to 345. < Fair to good, 35s 6d to 37s 3d; dark to dull, 33s to 345., Gut, etc., 30s to 33s 3d. Hemp.—The Manila market has declined but closed steadier -with business in "J" grade, April-June and May-July shipments, at £4O. The sisal market is easier. Sellers quote No. 1 -May-July shipments,, £37 15s. The New Zealand market is without interest' on account of Manila easing. No buyers at present and value is nominal. Buyers might consider business at £34 to £34 10s for high points and £33 to £33 10s for fair. Apples.—Tha market is quiet. The lonic shipment was mainly in good condition, except for Cox's Orange, a proportion of which was very wasty. Some Delicious and Ribston Pippin were also not satisfactory. Slackness in packing is again very noticeable. The pears were very wasty, some being practically unsaleable. All varieties were . affected except Vicar of Winkfield. The .trouble was due to forward condition; and looseness of packing. Prices are:—Apples: Cox's Orange, 16s to 20s. a case; Jonathan, 13s to 16s; Dunn's Favourite, 13s to ,15s 6d; London Pippin, 12s to 14s; Delicious, 13s to 15s; Wolseley, 12s to 13s; King David, 14s to 15s. Premier, 12s; Adam's Pearmain, 14s; Ribston Pippin, 12s to 15s. , Pears ; (crates): Vicar of Winkfield, 9s to 15s; \Vinter Cole, 3s to 15s; Packham, 12s to 17s; Conference, 3s; Josephine, 10s to 15s; Beurre Diel, 9s; Beurre Clairgeau, 4s 6d to 13s 6d. Australian prices .are—Apples : Tasmanian Cox's Orange, lis to 16s; Ribston Pippin, lis to 15s; Jonathan ,• 12s to 16s. West are t. Enalish, best white feedmaking, 28s 6d. Plate;- May-June shipments, value 22s 7£d. Chilean afloat, sold at,2Bs 3d. Nominal values. New Zealand "A" grade dartons,"29s 3d. Peas.—Maple held firm, hut demand is quiet. Tasmanian, ea route, made 945. and New Zealand, afloat, offered 85s, and May-June shipments, 80s. Blues are depressed on account of further decline of Japanese. Nom'ml value "A" grade Tasmanian, about £lB.

DAIRY BOARD'S REPORT. DECLINE OF DANISH BUTTER. [by telegeaph.—own correspondent. I - WELLINGTON. Tuesday. The Dairy Produce Board has received the following market report from the London agency dated April 29 (the figures in parentheses are the prices for the previous week) Butter.—New Zealand, salted, 151s to 154s (152s to 1545); unsalted, 164 a to 166s (164s to 1665). The market is steady.. Australian: Finest salted, 150s to 152s (151s to 1545); unsalted, 158s to 162s (158s to 1625): Argentine: Finest unsalted, 152s to 156s (154st to 1565). Danish: 164s to 166s (172s to 1765). The market is quiet. Official f.o.b. price, 163s to 1655, but sales have been made at 160s. The weakness of the Danish market is owing to increased production, inferior quality and smaller German purchases, owing to the competition of lower price Baltic butters Retail prices: Colonial. Is 7d; Danish, Is Bd. The German market is weak and the French market is weak, and a continued decline is expected, owing to increased local production due to favourable weather. Cheese.—New Zealand: First white, 75s to 76s (76s to /7s); coloured, 76s to 775. The market is steady. Canadian: Finest white, 92s to 94s (92s to 945); coloured, 90s to 945. Market steady. Australian: Finest coloured, 73s to 755. Retail prices are unchanged. The board has also received the following advice from its agents in Canada: — Butter: Vancouver, 43 cents to 44 cents (Is 9Ad to Is 10(1); Montreal, 38 cents (Is 7d); New York, 45 cents (Is 10£ d). Cheese: Montreal, 16| cents (8 3-8 d).
