THE WAIKATO MEETING.

TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME. The Waikato Racing Club will bring its Autumn Meeting to a conclusion to-day, and in tho event of fine weather prevailing Te Rapa should once again attract a large concourse of racegoers, for the acceptances received for tho eight events which form tho programme promise to bring about a series of very interesting contests. The following is a list of tho acceptances for the various events;— RAGLAN HURDLES, miles.

REVIEW OF THE FIELDS. BY ARCHER. The opening event, the Raglan Hurdles, has attracted a useful field and promises to be an interesting contest. Despite a rise of twelve pounds for her decisive win on the opening day Lady Spalpeen is again likely to be in stiong demand. Her stablemate Peter Rosa and the useful Rangitahi may be the hardest she has to beat. A big field is carded for tho Ohinewai Handicap and luck will bo an important factor. There are many possibilities and fancies will very likely take a wide range with Master Mind, Royal Donlton and Ramblin' Kid among the best fancied. The class engaged in the Eureka Handicap is weak and, although she failed badly in her last start, the top-weight Lorna Doone may start favourite, especially if the track has dried. Speechless, who won on the opening day, should also be well supported and Carlaris will also have a following. A good field is carded for tho Te Rapa Handicap and there is material to provide a splendid contest. It is generally regarded as a very open race and the betting should be wide. Master Doon, Mosaic and True Blood are all nicely weighted and they may be among the best fancied. The Te Rore Handicap has attracted a big field. The top-weight Paddon won in convincing fashion on the opening day and will probably start favourite, even though he has eleven pounds more to carry. Bright Dawn, who has been racing consistently, and Festina Lente are others that may find good support. Runners will not bo numerous in the Huntly Steeplechase and the improving Benu Cavalier is likely to be a solid favourite with Pendennis and Prince liufus also in request. A big field of speedy sprinters is carded for the Flying Handicap. It is a very open race and the draw for positions may have an effect on the betting. . Aussie, Flying Juliet and Archeno are all in form and they may share the public confidence. The meeting will conclude with the Rangiriri High-Weight Handicap and no doubt it will be a good betting race. Despite bis failure when heavily backed on the opening day Hyde Park, who may be a better horse for the run, will again have a strong following. Ballachnlish and Gold Jacket may also be strongly supported. NOTES FROM WANGANUI. JUMPERS IN WORK. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CO UK ES t'O NDE N r.] WANGANUI. Tuesday, j The Spalpeen gelding Rayo has been schooled over Iho big fences at Hawera and he has very favourably impressed by the way he cleared the obstacles. He figures in the Great Northern Steeplechase. T. Clark has given Comical a couple of turns over tho big obstacles and the gelding has shown that he can negotiate the jumps in fine style. He may be given a trial at Wanganui on the second day across country in view of his engagement in the Great j Northern Steeplechase. Koauau is another gelding that promises to distinguish himself shortly.. The All Red gelding has been galloping well on the tracks and in his races recently, and when he starts in hurdle events again be will probab'.v play a prominent part. Bonnv Rill won a couple of hack steeplechase events last winter, and. judging by the way she ran in the hurdles at Awapuni on Thursday, she will place other tumping events to her credit this season. Brigadier Bill and Oinaliu were included anion" the contestants at the Manawatu meeting. The latter gelding is not yet readv. but he may not be long ;,n getting back to form. Brigadier Bill is very well and ran a good race, but he will be improved with another outing or. two, and he will have to be reckoned with at V, anganui ami at l'An S l "improving hurdler in San Pedro scored well at Awapuna last week, ami more will be heard of the sou of Kaugi vvc. in the near future. . Haliowmorn is not engaged m the Oreat Northern Hurdles, but may be a runner in the big steeples at Ellerslie. A sple.idid jumper, with heaps of pace, this Hallowmas "■elding should pay his way dutine the S< frdX th ra°n better race at Awtipuni than he did at, Feildms, and the Hallowmas gcldips liKcly to set anions* the winners again shortly. Le has nace and can jump, and :t would not he surprising to see him distinguish himself in some of the big hurdle races to come. The Egmont Winter Meeting, to be held nest week, promises to be a successful one. \ good percentage of the horses "engaged are likely io be seen out at nui and Ellerslie and this will add mteiest to the racing at Hawera.. Yoma appears to be coining back to h.s beat form He w.« left badly -.n the Pnnce of Wales Handicap at Awapuni, but finished in third place. He should be worth watching iti his near-by engagements. The Lamb has finished racing tor this season, and GlengarifT and Mendip have been turned out for three months. 1 The Auckland-owned colt True Blood was unlucky at Feilding, but he had every chance at Awapuni last week. He away when the pressure was applied Thaw ran his best race to date when he i downed Gasconv in the Sires' Produce ■ Stakes at Awapuni. There was no fluke j about the win. as Gasconv led all the wav until Thaw got to him over the iast little bit The winner wh» in receipt of lilo from Gascony. but Hie latter had a two Jer, e ths' lead at the bottom of the straurht and only a good "ne could have caught the Kins John gelding.
