Expelled from school at sixteen for drilling stories in her exercise books for "the delectation of her friends, Miss Ruby !Ayrfis, who has gone to South Africa to flbtnin local colour for a new novel,' has had the experience of seeing her photograph permanently exhibited in her old classroom, endorsed with a statement that •he was always encouraged in story-writ-ing. Miss Ayres, who is an extraordinarily rapid •writer, composes directly on ♦he typewriter. She has often written SOjCQQj and on occasions 30,000, words, ' ■ft day.-
