SUBURBAN PROGRESS.

ACTIVITY IN BUILDING. ONE TREE HILL AND AVONDALE. Building returns for the year ended March 31, 1927, presented to the One Tree Hill Road Board on Wednesday showed that a total of 542 permits, representing an expenditure of jE190,713 had been issued during the. year, compared with £173,162 for the preceding year. For £173,162 for the preceding year. For the past 12 months 184 permits for dwellings, costing £171,843, were issued, compared with 163 permits, involving £141,829 for the previous year. During the past fortnight 23 permits, of a value of £14,292, including 11 for dwellings valued at £13,702, had been issued. The progress of the borough of Avondale is also reflected in the building increases for the past financial year, as compared vith the previous year. The number of permits issued during the period 1926-27 was 332, representing a total outlay of £103,822, compared with 299 permits for buildings costing £86,563 for the 1925-26 period. The value of dwellings, for which were ,permits were granted, increased from £70,574 to £87,797; shops, from £4533 to £5355; and other buildings from £139 to £5415.
