WHAKATANE SCHOOL FIRE.

REPLACING THE BUILDING. TENDER ACCEPTED BY BOARD. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 WHAKATANE, Wednesday. The Auckland Education Board has accepted the tender of Boon and Sullivan, of Whakatane, £4241 10s, for the erection of a new primary school at Whakatane in place of the building which was destroyed by fire last January, It is expected that the contractors will make a start this week on the work. The school committee has applied to the board to have floors constructed in the marquees where the school is being carried on temporarily so that conditions might be made comfortable for the children during the winter months. The board has intimated that it has recommended the department to make a grant for flooring purposes. Great interest is being taken in the forthcoming school committee election here, and it is expected that there will be a record number of candidates.
