MAINTENANCE OF CHILD.
FOSTER PARENTS DIVORCED. WOMAN GRANTED AN ORDER. . [BY TELEGRAPH. —PR2S& ASSOCIATION.] VPELLINGTON, Wednesday. In the Supreme Court to-day, Rosa Firth proceeded against George William W T ood, butcher, seeking an order for £1 a week maintenance in respect of an adopted child. The parties were divorced last SepterrA ber, and both ha/ve since remarried. Mr. Justice MacGregor said the Court had given the custody of the child to petitioner. He was satisfied the respondent had a legal responsibility, although the other husband would be liable if the child became destitute. It had been submitted that petitioner and her husba.nd were in such a good financial position that no order should be made against respondent, whom it was said was not in a position to pay. Respondent was doing good business;, and could evidently afford to pay £1 a week. Petitioner's husband was unable ifco work and the two were not in a wealthy position. The order asked for was made as from January/ 1.
