SOCIAL GATHERING.
A gathering of the Auckland Grammar School Old Girls' Association was held on Tuesday afternoon, March' 29, at the Girls' Grammar School, Howe Street, which too.lt the form of a cricket match (Old Girls v. Present Girls), tea and social evening. There was an attendance of 150 Old Girls, which clearly shows the interest taken in the association. The cricket match ended in a victory for the Did Girls by three n as. Just before ten an enthusiastic wtloome was given to Miss Whitelaw, the first headmistress of tilie Auckland Girls' Grammar School. Miss Whitelaw left the Auckland Grammar School to take up a position as headmistress of Wycombe Abbey School in the South of England. Since leaving Wycombe Abbey: 18 months ago Miss Whitelaw has been travelling in; East Africa. At the social evening,an enjoyable time was spent rul dancing and competitions, interspersed with items by some of the Old Girls. During the evening an-inter-esting address on East Africa was given by Miss Whitelaw. The evening was brought to a happy conclusion by the singing of the' school song,, " Auld Lang Syne," and the " National Anthem."
