i COMMISSIONS OF INQUIRY. REPRESENTATION ON THE BOARD. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TAURANG-A, Wednesday. Tbe Tauranga Borough Council and Chamber of Commerce have been advised by Mr. W. S. Short that two royal commissions have been issued to him by the ieneral-in-Couricil. In the case of one commission Sir. Short is to inquire into and report as to the necessity or justification for tbe erection by the Tauranga Harbour Board of a wharf at Mount Mauuganui and to the necessity or justificatic for the acquisition by the j board of certain land for the purpose of 1 providing access to the proposed wharf if it is constructed. In the case of the other commission Mr. Short is directed to inquire into and report upon the question as to whether j the representatioa on the Tauranga Har- ! bour Board o? the electors of the various districts comprising the Tauranga Harbour district is sufficient and equitable. He is also advised that the inquiries will be commenced at Te Puke on March 6. The Borough Council has engaged its solicitor to represent the borough before the commission and has also decided to make representations to the commissioner m regard to holding sittings in Tauranga. It is understood Mr. H. 0. Cooney, of Te Puke, will act for the- Harbour Board. Speaking at a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce Mr. P. H. Christian said the chamber did not intend to oppose the erection of a wharf at Mount Maunga nui, but desired the Harbour Board to adhere to its original programme of works, including the erection of the deflector wall which was to take precedence over other works. The chamber was in favour of building a wharf at Mount Maunganui in the order as recommended by the engineers Tbe chamber appointed a committer to act in conjunction with the Borough Council in the matter.
