TROTTING.

SEASON'S FIXTURES. February 19, 23—Otahuhu Trotting Club. February 2G. March 2—Wellington Trotting Club. March 5, 7 YVaikato Trotting Club (at Alexandra Park, Epsom). March 9—Manawatu Trotting Club. March 12—Taranaki Trotting Club. March 12, 15—New Brighton Trotting Club. March 00—Thames Trotting Club. April 16, 18—Hawora Trotting Club. May 7 —Cambridge Trotting Club. Juno 18, 22—Auckland Trotting Club. NOTES BY PICADOR. As a result of the heavy rain on Tuesday evening the dirt training track at Alexandra Park was unfit for East work yesterday and the work was confined to jogging. A number of visiting horsea put in an appearance and were jogged in the centre. J. Bryce has arrived with Kohara, who is in excellent order to tackle hi 3 engagements. Kohara has raced consistently well this season, and his latest winning exploit was registered when he won the President's Handicap at Alexandra Park in December off a4m 29s mark m 4m 25 4-ss. The chestnut is handicapped on 4m 27s in the Otahuhu Cup, and he should be equal to making a bold showing from that mark. Although he finished fourth in the Summer Cup, going 4m 29s off a 4m 30s mark, Locanda Mac did not perform up to expectations when he raced here in December. In the meantime he seems to have been on the improve, for he finished third to Jack Potts and Trenand in the Midsummer Handicap at Addington last Saturday, when he went 4m 26 2-5s off a 4m 29s mark. Locanrla Mac has paced some of his best races at Alexandra Park and he should make a bold bid for honours off a 4m 30s mark in the Otahuhu Cup on Saturday. The New Brighton trainer R. B. Berry is expected to arrive this morning with Sea Pearl, who is one of the popular fancies for the Otahuhu Cup. Sea Pearl has performed consistently well in good company in recent months, and at the end of the first six months of the current season is third on the list of winning horses with a sum of £2040. Sea Pearl finished second in the Auckland Trotting Cup off 4m 30s in 4m 32 l-ss, while she has since won the Forburv Handicap off 4m 29s in 4m 34 3-5s on a slow track. On . form she should possess a first-class winning chance in the Otahuhu Cup, wherein she is nicely placed on a 4m 29s mark. Present indications point to Coneliff starting a hot favourite in the Otahuhu Cui\ on Saturday. Coneliff has a great reputation, but he has not yet raced in New Zealand and considerable interest will attach to his running. His best performance to date is a winning one of 3m 21s for a mile and a-half, so that he has yet to show whether he is capable of going a fast two miles. Most people*" take it for granted that he will, but he has had no recent racing and he should be thoroughly tested by seasoned horses like Sea Pearl, Cardinal Logan, and Locanda Mac. who have all shaped well in recent engagements. Canterbury stables are usually well represented at meetings at Alexandra Park,. and the coming meeting should be no exception, for among the horses engaged are Acron, Peter Swift, Great Bingen. Logan Chief, Peter Bingen, Coneliff, Elzear, Direct Wood, Cardinal Logan, Bessie Logan, Locanda Mac, Talent. Kohara, Sea Pearl, Firno, Sahib, and Rey Logan, all of whom hail from Canterbury. Firpo, who is engaged in the Railway Handicap (saddle) on Saturday, was responsible for a good effort last week, when he finished second in the Linwood Handicap (saddle) at Addington, going 2m 13 2-ss. The black pacer acts well with the wight up, and he reads very nicely placed on a 2m 17s mark in his coming engagement. It is stated that the promising young reinsman, M. H. Holmes, who has been experiencing a good deal of success lately, will drive Locanda Mac in the Otahuhu Cup on Saturday, Peter Bingen, who is engaged in the Myers Handicap on Saturday, started favourite in the Craven Handicap at Addington last week, but could get, no nearer than fourth at the finish. Still he was beaten by three good ones in Queen's Own, Bonny Lotn-n, and Talnro, mid h<* may do better at Alexandra Park. Peter Bingen is a speed merchant when thoroughly right and may possibly have benefited by his outing last week. The Wellsford owner-trainer, G. A. Williams, har. arrived at Epsom with Ngatira and Gold. Dial, who have engagements at the coming meeting. His charges are in excellent trim and it should not be for lack of condition if they fail to race prominently. Last season Gold Dial won several races in minor company and proved herself a useful and reliable pacer. She has only had three runs this season, and as she won at her last start, she is evidently back to form. again. Luck will he an important factor in a, big field like that engaged in the Tamaki Handicap on Saturday, but Gold E'ial is one of the solid ones among the limit division and she should make a bold showing. Sahib, who figures nmong the limit division in the Tamaki Handicap on Saturday, is a five-year-old gelding by Logan Pointer from Becky M. Up to the present he has not done a great deal of racing, but he is evidently a useful sort, for ho won a double at Wei;tr>ort_ in December, winning the Stockton Handicap (11 miles) in 2m 59s and the Birchfield Handicap (1$ miles) in 3m 355. Petroleuse, who will be competing among the slow-class trotters at the coming meeting, was successful in winning a double at South Wairarapa on Boxing Day. In her second success she went two miles in 5m Is on a slow track, so that she is handily placed on 3m 46s in the Trial Handicap on Saturday. Petroleime is a bay mare by Petereta from a Galindo mare and is owned by Mr. J. R. Corrigan. Among the acceptors for the Railway Handicap (saddle) on Saturday is Master Cute, who won the Featherston Handicap (saddle) at South Wairarapa in December in 2m 21s. and. subsequently finished second to Blue Glen in the Farewell Handicap at Hastings. Master Cutei goes well with the weight up and is reputed to be very useful. The three-year-old. Author Jinks, who won the Juvenile Handicap at Addington last week, is evidently a young pacer of more than "average ability. It is stated that he paced his first mile in 2m 15s and averaged 2m 18s to the mile for the mile and five furlongs, despite being eased up at the finish of the race. Author Jinks is a bay gelding by Author Dillon from Lady Jinks, and i 3 a great advertisement, for his sire, who was the champion of his day. A Southern writer states that Author Jink° goes with the easiet of action and is particularly clean-gaited. wearing nothing but the hopples. Unfortunately he will not be on hand to meet Great Peter in the Champion Slakes at Easter, as he is not engaged in that race. THE WAIKATO CLUB. forthcoming; meeting. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Wednesday. A meetingr of the committee of the Waikato Trotting Club was held last evening, Mr. R. T. Reid presiding.
