INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
TREATMENT OF PATIENTS. PROVISION AT AUCKLAND. The opinion that the provision of better accommodation for cases of infectious disease was becoming increasingly pressing was expressed by the chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, Mr. W. Wallace, Inst evening, when the board had before it an inquiry from the district medical officer of health, Dr. T, Hughes, as to what the board was doing, with regard to mild cases of infection from shipping. "The board has had this matter before it for some time now," said Mr. Wallace. "Four months ago tho Minister of Health, Hon. J. A. Young, and the InspectorGeneral of Health, Dr. T. H. A. Valintine, promised to come to' Auckland to discuss the question with the boird so that, the best, possible arrangement!, could bo made. They have not come yet, and it. seems to me that tho board will have to take tho matter in its own hands, Tho question is becoming an urgent one and we will have to act, and if, in so doing, mb make mistakes, the responsibility will be on the Minister and tho officers of his department." It was decided to advise Dr. Hughes that the board was awaiting the visit of tho Minister and Dr. Valentine before it took any further action.
