At the Adelaide Trolling Club's meeting last mouth the stewards reported " that E. J. Owens, for using spreaders on Rolled Oats in the Encourage Handicap without permission, have his driver's licence cancelled." Spreaders are an American invention, used on horses with the object of curing the habit of knee-knocking. The contrivance is an attachment from the shafts to the horse's knees. Although used in training operations, it has never before been used on a horse in Sydney in a race.

The electric light anniversary meeting of the Western Australian Trotting Association on January 22 marked the beginning of the thirteenth year of racing under electric light. During the last dozen years trotting in Western Australia, it is contended, haa been raised to a high plane.
