ASSUALT ON AN A9BE. ( _ TEN PERSONS PUNISHED. ■ i ■ 'i ': K . A, and N.Z. PARIS. .Tan. 20. - Two men and eight women were to-day convicted of assaulting Abho Desrtoyers, of Bonbon, in January, ISCb. It will bo recalled that the abbe was stripped and flogged by a number of persons belonging to (he Mesminisls, an extraordinary Bordeaux sect, who had accused him of wizardry. The accused were sentenced, the men to eight months' imprisonment and the women to six months in gaol. They were also fined 100 francs each as damages. The pba of accused was that they had acted legitimately and in defence against the forces of Satan. The Judge said the penal code did not provide for sttcli a" eventuality,.
