A new era in yearling and blood stock sales in New Zealand was commenced today at Trentliam with the first of the national sales, which are intended to be an annual event in conjunction with the summer meeting of the Wellington Racing Club. '.The lots put tip to auction comprised yearlings and older horses, but the main feature of the sale, as it will also be in future, was the yearlings which included'collections from the Dominions most representative studs. There was a large attendance including tlie personal and proxy representation of Australian sportsmen. Prices took a' wide range, four figures being obtained for the best lots, while some went for a mere song, or were passed in. Several new owners were operating, and some of the lots so secured will be trained at Trentham.

The Auckland trainers, Messrs. J. T. Jainieson and J. Buchanan operated freely for their patrons. The highest price of the sale was given,by the latter trainer for the bay colt by Absurd from Bronze (brother to Glenross, Grotesque, and. Anklet). bred by Mr. G. M. Currie. It took 1025 guineas to secure him. This colt was on Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Messrs. Chishold and Company's catalogue. This price was closely followed by the .1000 guineas given by Messrs. J. Pyne, Gould, Guiness, Limited, and Messrs. Wm. Inglis and Son, for Mr. J. F. Reid, owner of the Burnside stud,,

Mr. A. B. Williams gave 900 ginueas for the bay colt by Paiadine from Sweet Charity. The bay colt by Kilbroney from Oratress (winner of the New Zealand Cup and Wellington Cup), brought 800 guineas, being purchased by the Trentham trainer, H. B. Lorigan for a new patron. The brown colt by Paper Money from Puttee (half brother to Killocra), brought 775 guineas, the youngester being purchased for Melbourne. A similar price was obtained for the bay filly by Paper Money from Epitaph. Mr. G, D. Greenwood gave 725 guineas for the bay colt by Absurd from Cherry Mart ( a half brother to Mandane), and Mr. W.
