Duke and Duchess aA York aro tho preparations for the decor ration of tho city's public buildings. One of the rnogt spectacular schemes will be provided at tho chief post office The work there and on tho other Government buildings is being undertaken by tho Public Works Department, Tho post office decorations will largely follow tho plan adopted during the visit of tho United States Fleet. A hngd illuminated sign, "Welcome to our Royal Guests,** will bo placed on tho centre of tho building, and flags, greenery and bunting will be arranged in tasteful profusion. The building will ho outlined in ambot lights, and coloured lights «re also prominent in a novel schema of hanging festoons. Tho customs buildings will! be adorned with bunting and greenery,, the main plants, as in tho case of tho post office ! being nikau, The Town Ilall is to bo the subject of an interesting experiment. Tho rocout renovation of its exterior has provided a soft whiteness that has inspired a scheme of flood-lighting instead of tho usual outline lights. Tho result should be striking, not only in the brightness of the picture, but also in tho introduction of an illusion—-duo to tho dark stones of the base of the building—thai the hall is in mid air. An appeal has been issued by tiuf special committee of the council attending to the matter asking tlixat ell bus* ness premises, especially in tho Qyoen. Street area, should have appropriate do* •/ corations. Each local body in tho pro- / virico has also had submitted to it it/ suggestion that it should co-operate in it) scheme to have streamers hung acrowi ('. the streets through which the Royal p;*o« } cession will pass. A request that Karangahape Roadf should be included in the scheme of ciij? decoration!! was made to the City Council!' on Thursday by a deputation from the) Karangahape-Road Business Men's Asso4 ciation.
