A RECORD ESTABLISHED, RACE OVER 880 YARDS. [bx telegraph.—own correspondent. ] CHBISTCHUItCH, Thursday. D. P. Lindsay, a member of the Canterbury team selected to compete at the New Zealand championship swimming carnival at Auckland, swam a challenge race against A. Stokes and P. Hill at tho East Christchurch baths this evening over BSoyd3. Lindsay won easily by 35yds. from Stokes, with Hill 15yds. further back, Lindsay's time. 11m 5-1 3-ss, is a New Zealand record. The previous best time registered in tho Dominion was 31m 59 2-5s by A. Baird. of Auckland. CHAMPIONSHIP ENTRIES. Entries for the Auckland provincial swimming championships will close this evening at the Tepid Baths. The nominations alreadv received assure the success of the carnival next Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
